Roleplay Software: Tools for Game Masters and Storytellers

Post & Roll is the roleplay software designed with a modern and lightweight interface, ideal for playing from your smartphone without losing an ounce of epicness.

Three ways to play

Same table, same tools. The only thing that changes is how fast the story moves.

At your pace

Play-by-post

The classic asynchronous mode. One game master and several players write in turns, with no schedules. The game is organised into chapters and scenes, and you get a nudge when it is your turn.

No table needed

Solo play

Play with no game master and no group. You write your journal and, when you do not know what happens next, you ask the oracle: it answers with nuance and sometimes throws the story off course.

Live

Live session

Real-time session with the tactical map filling the screen. Moves travel straight between browsers, with initiative, rolls and chat in the side panel.

You pick the mode when you create the game. Each one opens its own screen, built for what it needs.

A real tactical map

Not a picture with tokens on top: a full map engine, built into the game.

Fog of war

Paint and erase what the party has explored. Each player only sees their own.

Dynamic vision

Walls block line of sight in real time, and doors open and close.

Grid your way

Square or hexagonal, with optional snapping so tokens line up on their own.

Tokens with portraits

Linked to the character, with configurable size, shape and border.

Drawing and measuring

Freehand strokes and area templates: line, circle, cone and rectangle.

Live weather

Rain, snow, embers or fog over the map, to set the tone of a scene.

Pins and notes

Mark places on the map with information you decide whether players can see.

Map history

Replay how the map changed over the course of the game, move by move.

The game master prepares maps ahead of time in the DM Chest and publishes them when ready.

Frequently Asked Questions about Post & Roll

Answers to the most common questions about the platform

What is Play-by-Post Roleplay and how do I play on Post & Roll?

Play-by-Post (PbP) is an asynchronous gaming style where the story progresses through written posts. At Post & Roll, we've modernized this experience with a mobile-optimized interface, real-time notifications, and integrated tools to make playing as fluid as chatting.

What tools do I have as a Dungeon Master?

Post & Roll offers the 'DM Chest', a powerful suite for managing characters, NPCs, maps, quests, and world notes. You also have customizable random tables and a chapter control system to organize your epic narrative.

How does the dice system work and is it secure?

Every roll is thrown with our 3D dice physics and written into the game log with its formula, its breakdown and who rolled it, in full view of the table. That shared record is what builds trust: anyone can review any roll at any time.

What is the Adventurer's Backpack?

It's your personal inventory and control center. In it, you can manage your heroes' equipment, check their stats, personal notes, and track your quest progress across all adventures you participate in.

Can I use Post & Roll for worldbuilding and creative writing?

Absolutely! We have worldbuilding tools like our intelligent Fantasy Name Generator and Random Tables. Many users use Post & Roll as their 'field notebook' to organize their worlds, novels, or video games.

Do I need to register to start?

You can use public tools like the Online Dice Roller instantly. However, to play games, save progress, and join the narrative roleplay community, we recommend creating a free account.

Which game systems are compatible?

Our platform is universal and agnostic. While ideal for D&D 5e or Pathfinder, you can play any system (Fate, Savage Worlds, PbtA) or even your own custom systems thanks to our flexible tools and narrative focus.

Is there a community where I can find players or narrators?

Yes, Post & Roll features an internal Community module and an active Discord server. In the 'Available Adventures' section, you'll always find new roleplay stories looking for players of all experience levels.

What is the difference between the three game modes?

Play-by-post is asynchronous: a game master and several players write in turns with no schedules. Solo mode is for a single player, who moves forward by writing a journal and consulting an oracle whenever chance needs to decide. Live mode is a real-time session with the tactical map as the main screen. You pick the mode when you create the game.

Does Post & Roll have a virtual tabletop (VTT)?

Yes, and it is built into the game itself. It includes fog of war, dynamic vision with walls and doors, a square or hexagonal grid with snapping, tokens linked to characters, drawing, measurement templates, pins, weather effects and playback of the map's history.

Can I play offline?

Solo mode, yes: the oracle runs entirely on your device with no calls to the server, and the app can be installed on your phone. Modes with more players need a connection, because the game is shared with the rest of the table.

How much does Post & Roll cost?

Nothing. Every feature is available for free. The platform runs on voluntary donations, which remove ads for a month per euro and add a patron badge to your profile.
